Regulatory trends
1) New York just banned flavored Vapes. Is all of America next?
a. I found this after reading my daily newsletter the morning brew and following a couple of links. Also, I have been hearing so much about it I wanted to dig a little deeper. https://www.esquire.com/lifestyle/health/a29067489/which-states-banned-flavored-e-cigarettes-vaping-juuls/
b. Health is an extremely important aspect of our lives and is a necessity for happiness. Vaping is a threat to especially the younger part of the population because it is highly targeted towards them. Even strict regulations, in my opinion, will not solve the issue, because addicts will find their nicotine anywhere, no matter what the age restriction or ban is. The issue will still be around for a while.
c. I believe that it is not the teens and the actual consumers of vapes that would be the customer, but the parents.
d. The opportunity is relatively difficult to exploit, because getting an addict off his or her “drug”, is never easy and requires the actual user having a need to stop.
e. I saw the opportunity because I am seeing all my friends being hooked to the Juul and other vapes and they can not let go of it. It is not only destroying their health, but their mental strength is also weakening. Some of them are becoming depressed because they believe that if they cannot even stop vaping, what can they even achieve in life?
2) States imposing new cybersecurity requirements on insurers.
a. I found an interesting article and found it by researching the newest cybersecurity regulations.https://news.bloomberglaw.com/privacy-and-data-security/states-imposing-new-cybersecurity-requirements-on-insurers
b. Cybersecurity is one of the major issues the financial service industry is dealing with today.
c. Corporations in the financial service industry that are pursuing higher cybersecurity.
d. The opportunity is extremely difficult to put into action due to every state and country trying to deal with different regulations but the internet is a global platform.
e. I believe that cybersecurity is becoming a bigger issue, due to more people utilizing the internet and it is opening up opportunities for a lot of criminal activities. Companies and private users are trying to be safe using the internet.
Economic trends
3) Baby boomers are in a retirement crisis.
a. I found an economic trend that is affecting our economy at the moment and it will be an active issue in the upcoming years. https://www.investopedia.com/articles/personal-finance/032216/are-we-baby-boomer-retirement-crisis.asp
b. Most of the baby boomers are not prepared for their retirement. These people need securing financial safety for their retirement years.
c. Baby boomers with financial problems.
d. This opportunity is possible, by informing the baby boomers now on how to plan for retirement properly and saving money for later times.
e. I saw this opportunity after reading on how humans are living longer and longer, and the “old” population is growing dramatically, which calls for issues. Also, I noticed peoples spending habits and realized how many people do not save up for retirement.
4) The United States of America losing power to the rest of the world.
a. After reading a lot about the trade war between China and the US, I dug in a deeper and found this article which is about America losing power to the rest of the world. http://theconversation.com/a-new-world-is-dawning-and-the-us-will-no-longer-lead-it-98362
b. Americans want to remain the most powerful country in the world, and this is being endangered and people are worried about this issue. India, China, and Russia are on the rise and growing extremely fast in power.
c. The American government is most interested in gaining power back for the country.
d. This is an extremely difficult dispute that cannot be dealt with by one single person but has to be solved by an entire country working together.
e. I saw this opportunity because I have been noticing a lot of discussions around this complication. I have engaged with people that are devastated with America losing it’s power and are extremely worried about what the future brings.
Hey Steve,
ReplyDeleteI also found the trend about baby boomers not retiring. That is really awesome that we both saw the same trend even though we are in two different environments. Additionally, it looks like we both thought up a very similar solution! It looks like we both feel that there is a need for retirements plans geared towards this specific group of semi-retiring baby boomers.
