Inbound Marketing
What was the general theme or argument of the book?
In general, the book Inbound Marketing, by Brian Halligan, talks about how to generate leads on the internet. The main topics are SEO, Blogging, Social Media and other tools for building your brand.
How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
In class, we have discussed how to start a business successfully but did not dive very deep into marketing strategies and online presence. This book gives you the basics for any business, to create leads online.
If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
The exercise would involve creating a blog and social media channels for your business. Setting up all accounts and just starting to create content on them. In addition, a bonus to this exercise would be getting in touch with people in the same industry, over social media or commenting on their blogs.
What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
Most information was not new to me and I was not very surprised. But one thing that really shocked me, is the power of google. The author spends a great amount of time describing how google works and how crucial it is to work on your SEO ranking. You must be on the first page of google to have any chance to be seen. Only 1/10 people click past the first page when they do research.
Hello Steve,
ReplyDeleteIt was very interesting getting to read your reflection about the book "Inbound Marketing", as it was one of the books that I did not get the opportunity to read this semester. I can certainly see how the book relates to the class discussing the different ways to grow/expand your business online. The exercise that you created for this course is actually very cool and I think it ties along very well with the existing assignments that we had to complete this semester. Social media presence can be a tremendous asset, especially for new companies, and getting to know more about developing this presence can be very important for those that plan on continuing on with their entrepreneurial venture.
Hello Steve,
ReplyDeleteI found your reflection on the book to be very informative and interesting. Even though I have not read the book feel that I now have a firm grasp on the main concepts as well as the interesting points. You made the book seem so interesting that I might read it in the future. Thank you for this great reflection!
