- You. Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life?
- I am a people person, which makes conversations with others effortless and I could do it all day. I have been reading a lot of books and watching videos on how to increase focus and how to also become less distracted. This has become one of my greatest hobbies. It is also something where learning for me is effortless. Starting up a business in this niche would be one of the best areas I could imagine because all the administrational tasks, creating the content would be something I would enjoy.
- What are you offering to customers? Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs).
- The customer's unmet needs are productivity and high focus without being distracted. The course I am offering will help students that feel extremely distracted and unfocused.
- Who are you offering it to? Describe, in as much detail as possible, the demographic and psychographic characteristics of your customers. Think especially of this question: what do your customers all have in common?
- All my customers have the burning need to become more productive in common. They are looking for a person that understands their situation and can resonate with their current issues. I would target the segment of college students because they are my age and I believe they would be most attracted to my product/service.
- Why do they care? Your solution is only valuable insofar as customers believe it's valuable to them. Here, explain why customers will pay you money to use your product or service.
- This product/service would be valuable to my target group because productivity often translates into happiness, and every human being is chasing happiness and would be willing to pay for it. Also, some students feel so lost, unproductive, and distracted that they would be willing to pay money to get their life intact again.
- What are your core competencies? What sets you apart from everyone else? Also: what do you have that nobody else has?
- I might not be as experienced as older/wiser people. But because I am targeting people my age and there are no coaches/supporters in this field in my age I have an advantage of understanding the customer better and relating better to him/her.
In addition to these five elements, please spend a paragraph evaluating whether you believe these elements fit together or whether there are aspects of your business concept that are weaker / out-of-joint with the others.
The biggest issue I believe I have with this product/service is the credibility part. I do not have any credibility (yet) to teach anyone besides experience but no title/certificate anything. Also, certificates are becoming less valuable in my opinion and if one can deliver the value, it does not matter too much if one has a certain degree or not. Still, I believe this will be the greatest challenge to overcome. Overall I think my passion fits well with the product, which would make the work interesting for me.
Hi Steven,
ReplyDeleteI thought your post was very interesting, I really liked how you want to target people who get . distracted easily. This relates to my topic of targeting distracted drivers. I think that being distracted is an issue that is growing in our society, especially college students. College students have an issue of not being able to multitask and becoming distracted very easily. Overall great post!
Hello Steven,
ReplyDeleteI think that you have found a great target audience for product/service. I think that there are a lot of people today that are so distracted that they have a hard time finding the right way to go. I do agree that it is interesting work and that if you have a passion for it, you should definitely act on it. Finding the right certificates will not be hard if you really work towards your goal, keep up the great work!
