1. Gabriel (DOMAIN EXPERT): A psychologist/sociologist that deals with people in the workforce to make their work more engaging and make the employee happier and more focused on his job.
a. Gabriel is a family friend. I gave him a call to tell him about this class and my product and service. Also, he watched my second pitch and I gave him further details about the idea. He agreed that this market is growing and can take more penetration. He said if I needed any testimonials or support with the content creation, information sources, he could help me out. Gabriel does not expect anything in return. Knowing Gabriel will be a great advantage for future uncertainties I have created the content.
2. Dani (MARKET EXPERT): He has a small online business for college students, where he helps them figure out their passions and helps them find a career they would like.
a. I found Dani online after doing some research on the industry. I looked him up on Instagram and clicked the call button. He was super friendly and even though I was not buying anything, he gave me a couple of minutes to ask him industry-related questions. He said all his traffic comes from Instagram adds and word of mouth. He targets college students in certain areas. He was a little bit secretive about his exact strategy, but this was detailed enough for me. He did not expect any favors, he only said that if my business idea succeeds, we could maybe have a collaboration to create synergy. Knowing Dani now, will not be a major advantage for creating this product but it might pay off sometime down the road.
3. Julien (Supplier): Makes Self-development videos on YouTube and has created an online course for people to buy.
a. I sent Julien an email and responded to the same day. He seemed super friendly and was open to helping. He explained to me which platform to create an online video course and gave me some basic tips for product creation and what the structure should be like. He did try to sell me one of his courses (which I will not buy), but I still told him I will check it out. I asked me to give him a product review and maybe a recommendation in return. If I need any help in the future building the course (structure, sequence, marketing) I can reach out to him, but I must expect to pay if I want more detailed support. If I am struggling with product development in the future, I have a great source (not cheap) to help me, which could be a good potential contact to increase my chances of success.
What I learned from this assignment is that people want to help, “If you don’t ask, you don’t get”. This networking experience was different from the prior ones because I was talking to experts in the field, I want to be in. Before, I was only talking to potential customers, which are two extremely different views.

Hello Steve,
ReplyDeleteI can tell that you took advantage of this assignment and learned a lot from the 3 experts that you chose to contact. I know that in the last assignment you mentioned that your biggest weakness was establishing credibility for your service, however I think Gabriel's feedback about implementing testimonials can play a critical role in relaying customer feedback/expert review onto potential consumers. Talking to Dani provided insight into how you can better target the segment that you have identified for your service and even though the relationship may not be a current advantage for advancing your service, building quality network connections could pay off big in the future. I agree 100% with you that if you don't ask, you won't get. Putting yourself out there is an important part in building a quality network that you can rely on for support and feedback, all of which adds to becoming more successful and taking your business concept to the next level.
Good morning Steven,
ReplyDeleteThe three experts and suppliers that you cam in contact with are very strong supporters to build your social network with. All of the people that you talked to were experienced in their field and were fit for the roles that they were assigned. For example, Julien fits the description of a supplier because he is already producing videos and online courses that people are able to purchase. Your social network has a strong structure and I believe that you did an amazing job reaching out to them. You have built previous and current relationships with these people who can hopefully benefit or help you in the future. Your social network is very trustworthy and consists of people that you can rely on. Great picks!
